Fostering Sustainable Ecosystems - Sustainability Report 2023

54 Fostering Sustainable Ecosystems About the Report Leadership Messages About the Theme Corporate Overview Stakeholder Engagement and Materiality Assessment Our ESG priorities and Performance The image of our LEED BD+C Certified SWC building in Benin The image of our LEED BD+C Certified SWC building in Togo We implemented an energy modeling system, which allowed us to create a virtual replica of our building structure and simulate the energy interactions within it, enabling us to assess and forecast energy consumption, to undertake reduction plans, and consumption trends, among others. This analysis is part of our voluntary commitment to ensure optimal energy efficiency in our PIA (Togo) and GDIZ (Benin) SEZs. In the modeling approach, all the proposed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related parameters such as equipment capacities, efficiencies, airflow etc. have been modeled as designed. The energy model reflects the architectural, lighting and HVAC parameters as consistent with the relevant plans. A detailed zoning plan was developed for each floor and entered into simulation model and a baseline model is prepared as per requirements. The SWC buildings in Benin and Togo achieved LEED Silver certification on October 10, 2023. Designing, constructing, and executing a LEED-rated building in Western Africa is a significant challenge, making the SILVER certification a major milestone for both PIA and GDIZ. The SWC in PIA is the first building in Togo to receive LEED certification, while the SWC in GDIZ is the second building in Benin to achieve this certification (after the US Embassy in Benin).
