Most of the water consumed at the SEZs is drawn from groundwater sources such are boreholes and aquifers . We aim to develop a water efficiency strategy that will help us reduce our water footprint and water discharged from our operations. Our SEZs have installed CETPs of effluent treatment. Effluents generated from our SEZs are discharged into sewage, local water bodies and basins. We ensure that the effluents discharged from our operations adhere to quality standards such as the National Environmental Code concerning admissible values for elements in wastewater and IFC standards of permissible levels of effluents . We incorporate water efficiency considerations into the project planning and designing stage. The following five-step approach helps us in ensuring water resource efficiency in our projects: 01: Detailed site visits and analysis to understand local climate conditions, project area hydro-geological factors, rainfall patterns, sources of water, and other site-specific factors. 03: Recommend and encourage industries to adopt sustainable solutions/ methods that minimize the gross water requirements for their processes. 05: Install water meters and monitoring systems to track water consumption and detect leaks promptly. 02: Complete project site assessment, study of existing hydrology, preservation of existing waterbodies, natural drainage channels, measures to identify and improve groundwater recharge, etc. 04: Efforts to maximize the recycling efficiencies to prevent excessive extraction of raw water. Encourage on-site wastewater treatment facilities and reuse facilities, particularly for water-intensive industries. 01 02 03 04 05 Our GDIZ and PIA SEZs have obtained LEED Silver Certification for their respective Single Window Clearance buildings. The sustainability strategies implemented to obtain this credential have helped us lower our water consumption by 1000KL compared to conventional buildings. Water withdrawal (in KL)
